Groundbreaking ceremony at the State Service Center Salzburg: Milestone for climate-friendly large project achieved
01.12.2025With the official groundbreaking ceremony on November 27, 2025, a significant milestone was achieved in the construction of the State Service Center (LDZ) Salzburg: The consortium (ARGE) Habau-Swietelsky, which has been entrusted with the implementation of this ambitious project since the groundbreaking in January 2024, was able to successfully complete the shell construction.
The LDZ Salzburg is a mega construction project with 13 floors – ten above ground and three below ground – and a net usable area of 50,000 square meters. The innovative wood-hybrid construction method is characterized by the use of 2,500 wooden beams and 540 wooden columns. A total of around 1,600 cubic meters of wood will be used in combination with concrete. The secure foundation is ensured by 214 bored piles that reach up to 40 meters deep into the ground. This is necessary due to the proximity to the Salzach River to ensure a stable construction.
A sophisticated logistics system enables optimal project execution in the midst of the city of Salzburg, allowing the tight schedule to be adhered to. The construction costs amount to around 200 million euros. Upon completion at the end of 2026, the new LDZ will provide up to 1,300 jobs for the state administration as well as a large citizen service center.
Particular attention is paid to the sustainable use of the building: Photovoltaic panels ensure an environmentally friendly energy supply and emphasize the modern energy concept of the project. In addition, geothermal energy is utilized through activated slot walls and bored piles.
Swietelsky AG thanks all project participants and looks forward to the next steps leading to the planned completion at the end of 2026.
