The Althan Quarter in the 9th district of Vienna has gained a new SWIE residential building: SOPHIE, a project that offers 151 high-quality residential units. It was constructed by the East Construction branch on behalf of 6B47 Austria GmbH & Co. KG.
Successful Architecture
SOPHIE was designed with appealing aesthetics through thoughtful construction features. The architectural design impresses with a two-story lobby. The facade consists of precast concrete elements and glass railings. This has created a contemporary appearance for the new building, which still fits into the cityscape of the old quarter.
Solution-Oriented Construction
The proximity to the Franz-Josefs train station posed a challenge. Incoming trains cause significant vibrations in the surrounding buildings. Therefore, special attention was paid to the construction. A double-layered floor slab and Sylomer bearings successfully dampened potential vibrations. Additionally, the slender construction of the project was elegantly resolved with sliding ceiling connections in the interior and facade areas.
