A modern project

Imagine a place in your city where people with different needs and living arrangements can live together independently and on equal terms. A place for families and single parents, singles and shared apartments, people with disabilities, students and working professionals, younger and older generations alike. A contemporary idea that will soon become reality.

Campus Apfelbaum is being built in Vienna’s Hernals district, within a Gründerzeit block between Ottakringerstraße, Helblinggasse, and Geblergasse, in a vibrant and lively part of the city. The new complex combines modern new buildings with carefully renovated historic structures and will provide 11,700 m² of usable space in various housing forms. In total, around 280 people will eventually find a home here.

A demanding project like this requires a general contractor with both experience and vision – and SWIETELSKY brings exactly that. “It may sound a bit grand, but with this project we are setting new standards both socially and architecturally,” emphasizes technician Florian Frühwald.

A village within the city

“The Campus Apfelbaum project places the self-determination and inclusion of people, as well as community living, at its core and therefore serves as a model for sustainable and future-oriented neighborhood development,” says Daniel Müllner-Frank (site manager).

The name also reflects the concept: the outdoor spaces are designed to be as close to nature as possible, with trees, shrubs, and other plants creating a pleasant microclimate in summer. These green areas make it more enjoyable to spend time in the park-like inner courtyard as well as in the barrier-free rooftop gardens, which invite residents to plant and harvest together.

“These meeting spaces are central to the vibrancy of the campus – they play a key role in supporting the project’s strong sense of community,” explains Daniel Arzberger (technician).
