Projekt Hochwasserschutz Kapfschlucht 4

With the Kapfschlucht project in Feldkirch, a forward-looking flood protection system is being created for the city center. The aim is to ease the bottleneck in the gorge in order to give the River Ill more space when needed. This prevents the historic old town from being flooded during high water.

Projekt Hochwasserschutz Kapfschlucht 5

Complex conditions, precise coordination

Implementation is taking place under complex conditions: in an urban environment, along heavily used pedestrian and cycling paths, and with due regard for heritage protection—especially at the Heilig-Kreuz Bridge. In addition, the work on and in the Ill’s riverbed places high demands on logistics and construction processes, for example through temporary construction roads in the water or the need to respond flexibly to flood periods.

It is a major technical undertaking and at the same time an example of proactive flood protection that safeguards habitats and the population’s safety in the long term. The work is being carried out in close coordination with the City of Feldkirch and with consideration for the concerns of local residents—an effective combination of engineering expertise, consideration, and responsibility.
