The City of Graz's wastewater treatment plant in Gössendorf is being renovated and expanded as part of a comprehensive large-scale project. The aim is to increase the existing capacity from 500,000 (PE) to 815,000 (PE) in order to cope with population growth and increasing demands on wastewater treatment.

A central element of the expansion is the construction of an additional aeration tank with a volume of around 32,000 m³. This will be used for biological wastewater treatment and will contribute significantly to increasing the plant's capacity.

In the course of the construction work, numerous technical facilities will also be renewed: pumps, machines and aggregates, some of which have been in continuous operation for almost 20 years, will be replaced by modern, energy-efficient systems or upgraded to the current state of the art.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
