The Quelle site, which opened in 1965 in the Linz Industriezeile as a retail and mail-order center, was once an important part of economic history. Now we have the honor of opening a new chapter for our long-standing client Plasser & Theurer on this historic ground. On behalf of JMT Beteiligungs-GmbH, we have realized an impressive production hall for the development and manufacturing of railway construction machines – with a total area of 12,500 m² and a height of around 21 meters.

The industrial project was implemented based on the plans of Glut Architektur ZT GmbH.

Space for technology and people

The new assembly hall is being constructed as a steel structure with steel columns and truss girders. Surrounding reinforced concrete base elements and a PU panel façade ensure a stable and modern construction.

“A particular focus lies on the well-designed infrastructure of the building – allowing us to combine several functions under one roof,” explains SWIETELSKY project manager Ron Rieder.

The basement levels provide space for technical rooms, social facilities, and two sprinkler tanks with a total capacity of 900 m³, while the upper floor houses storage areas, changing rooms, offices, and staff lounges.

Functional and sustainable

“With this construction project, we have created a forward-looking production facility that combines functional and sustainable aspects,” says site manager Sedat Taskin.

A special highlight is the green roof, which contributes to energy efficiency, stores rainwater, and improves air quality. In addition, its vegetation promotes biodiversity and extends the lifespan of the roof structure.

High-quality collaboration

“By the end of 2025, the building envelope including the green roof is scheduled to be completed as planned. The teamwork is excellent, and coordination with the representatives of Plasser & Theurer has also been seamless,” says site foreman Markus Nietsch.

For several decades, SWIETELSKY has repeatedly worked and built together with Plasser & Theurer. The Austrian family-owned company has been the global technology leader in track construction machines for 70 years. The new assembly facility in Linz will help secure this position for the future.

What the new hall requires

  • 3,000 tons of steel for the structure

  • 614 tons of reinforcement

  • 4,755 m³ of concrete

  • 950 m² hollow walls

  • 1,700 m² insulated hollow walls

  • 2,500 m² hollow-core slab ceilings

  • 32 flights of stairs
