SWIETELSKY is one of the 20 companies awarded by the Ministry of Climate Protection (BMK) for its extraordinary commitment to energy efficiency.
The award was given for the construction of a covered storage hall for raw materials (such as recycling material). The storage hall was built in the summer of 2019 for the asphalt mixing plant in Dürnfeld/Kärnten. This measure reduced energy consumption by approximately 1,300,000 kWh per year. In the past, outdoor storage led to moisture content in the raw materials. For asphalt production, the mixture is heated to 200 degrees Celsius in the drying drum with burners, and the water evaporates. Liquid gas is required for this. The construction of the storage hall significantly reduced the moisture content in the raw material and thus the energy consumption for heating and evaporation.
The award ceremony took place during the first Austrian Sustainability Summit on March 24, 2022. The climate protection initiative of the BMK, klima aktiv, has brought Austrian industrial and commercial enterprises to the forefront that are advancing the exit from fossil energies and making the best use of energy. In total, the awarded companies save 25 million kWh of electricity and heat annually through the implemented measures. This corresponds to a saving of approximately 5,710 tons of CO2.
